Charlie was our first born son. He was born at 15 1/2 weeks into our second pregnancy, the first having ended in a miscarriage at 9 weeks. Charlie weighed 40g and I could have held him in one hand. You can read Charlie’s story in full detail by clicking here. When we were thinking about Charlie’s funeral, we decided we wanted him to have some sort of teddy bear or soft toy with him, as a small token of our love, but we wanted something that was the right size for him. Nothing we saw in the shops was quite right, so I decided to make a little toy (a tufty) like the ones I made as a child from leftover wool. The charlies bear logo is a photograph of the toy I made for Charlie and one of our special keepsakes. The toy itself was put in the coffin with Charlie before his cremation along with a poem I wrote for him and a Palm cross (as he was born on Palm Sunday). This was the first Charlie’s bear. The second is a special teddy bear my husband gave me after Charlie was born for me to hold when I was feeling particularly low and thinking about Charlie. He is called Charlie’s Bear or CB and always sleeps with me at night and helps to comfort me when I am missing Charlie.
